Alvechurch

2.5 miles. Start/finish (J): Scarfield Wharf, Alvechurch Marina, Alvechurch, B48 7SQ. There is a pub car park adjacent to the Weighbridge Pub. Alvechurch railway station lies close by. Terrain is good, through fields and along a towpath. One section on a footpath that follows a major road. Footpaths are well marked.

Follow the towpath on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal south until the stone aqueduct is reached (A). Take the footpath to the left and cross the field towards the railway line. Cross the railway line (B) with care and turn right along the footpath that runs between the house and the railway. The path then turns into a field. Continue walking parallel to the railway until you enter another field (C).

The path now follows a diagonal course over a small hill and across a stile into another field. The path runs parallel to the field boundary, though a gate by a farm (D) and over a stile. Now follow the minor path diagonally to the left towards the fence and stile and not the more obvious path straight on. Cross the stile, track and next stile. Again the path crosses the field diagonally and comes out on a minor road (E).

Turn left and follow the road a short distance past some dwellings until the next path to the left is reached. The path soon follows a course along an open field and then turns right (F) over a stile. This short path leads to the A448 Redditch Road (G). There is a proper footpath on the road and you will follow it to the left until you turn into the much smaller and picturesque School Ln (H). At the T junction turn left into Station Road (I) which you will follow over the railway and to the canal. The Weighbridge (J) is a cosy pub adjacent to the marina.

  1. This is the first walk we did off this site, we intend to do them all, great walk, not too taxing and a great pub at the end of it to boot.
